The Achille ’ s Heel of Low-Carb Diets

There are a number of variations on low-carb diets—Atkins’, ketogenic, paleo, carnivorous, South Beach, even my Wheat Belly and Undoctored programs. While low-carb diets are clearly superior to low-fat diets, they have a weakness: failure to take in a healthy quantity of prebiotic fibers to nourish bowel flora. This has substantial long-term health implications. This is why in the Wheat Belly program we aim to take in at least 20 grams prebiotic fibers per day.
