Did You Make A New Years Resolution?
I didn’t.
Why not set a theme for the year, rather than making yet another New Years Resolution?
Years ago I gave up making New Years Resolutions. They don’t work for me. I have, however, developed a habit of choosing a word or phrase to be a theme for the year.
Last year it was UNCOMFORTABLE. I challenged myself to do things that made me uncomfortable, because growth does not come from comfort. Discomfort is a signal of dealing with challenge.
Did it work? Yes.
I am in the process of launching a new product. Scary
I joined a mastermind group with people so smart and motivated it makes me a little nauseous just thinking about it.
My husband and I decided to buy our dream boat now, rather than waiting until we retired.
I stood up to someone I idolized and let her be angry with me in order to move a mission forward.
2013 was uncomfortable. It was also outstanding.
What is my phrase for 2014?
NOT MY JOB!
My husband thinks it is a little negative, but I need the reminder to focus on what IS my job rather than letting other things steal my energy and focus. Here are some examples:
Spending the day engaged in conversation on Facebook is NOT MY JOB. Yes, I use social media to connect with clients, potential clients, and audience members, but really, I should be able to do that in 15 minutes or so. In 2014 I will be closing down Twitter, Facebook, Google+, etc. When I’m working, I will focus on work…. at least...
