A Workmanlike Post…

Mom and I made it to the movie just as the movie previews were playing. We left an hour ahead. Perfect timing. We proceeded in downing a mega bucket of popcorn and a mammoth size cherry Coke split between us. I was just ravishingly starving and that warm and buttery popcorn hit the spot. The girl at concessions recognized us from all the times we’ve seen movies lately. She gave me a “frequent flyer” points card that I have to activate on the internet. We get points for every movie we watch and the concessions we buy. I have a feeling we are going to need it. The movie was very harsh and extremely brutal at times trying to portray an accurate depiction of slavery. One whipping scene of a female slave will have you on the edge of your seat. Why this movie got a R rating and not a NC-17 rating mystifies me. Brad Pitt’s saving grace character shows up at the very end of the movie and we have a glorious homecoming of our protagonist that has been in slavery for 12 long years separated from his wife and children. He was a free black man in New York when he got kidnapped, shackled, and thrown into slavery in Louisiana. The movie left me feeling somber as we headed to Applebee’s – that we could do such dark and evil things to our fellow mankind.  I got a black bourbon and bleu cheese burger.  Mom got the mushroom and cheddar burger.
