Annual Turkey Drive

Every year Drs. Shoshara and Shakir help co-coordinate a Turkey Drive - they raise funds in a grass roots effort to provide Thanksgiving turkeys to families in need on Chicago's South Side, in the Jackson Park, Woodlawn, and Marquette Park neighborhoods. According to school statistics, over 99% of the student population in these areas live on incomes below the federal poverty line. The drive is an all-volunteer effort that is run through the Sabeel Food Pantry, which is part of the not-for-profit that is run by Dr. Shakir's father.Last year a record  846 turkeys were donated to families who would otherwise not have been able to afford their own. This year, we have set an ambitious goal of 1,000 turkeys, and we once again ask for your support in this effort to help our neighbors in need. Each turkey only costs $15, but that can make the difference to a family in need this holiday. All donations are tax deductible! You can donate in one of two ways:1) Online, at the Turkey Drive's website: http://www.sabeelpantry.org (scroll down to "Annual Turkey Drive"). There you will find not just a link for secure PayPal payment, but also pics and videos from past turkey drives, as well as other information.2) By check, made out to "Sabeel Food Pantry." Checks can be dropped off or mailed to any PHA office. Just mark the outside left bottom of the envelope "Turkey Drive".Every little bit helps! Thank you all for your support and Happy Thanksgiving!
