Toumaz Receives CE Mark Approval for SensiumVitals Patient Monitoring System (VIDEO)

Toumaz has received CE Mark approval in Europe for its SensiumVitals system, allowing patients’ vitals to be monitored and transmitted wirelessly to a nurse station or directly to clinicians through any approved web-enabled device. The sensor tracks the heart rate, temperature, and respiration every two minutes, rather than the standard four to eight hour cycle rate. This can help clinicians stay on top of patient health, and act in an appropriate time frame if their health begins to degrade. During a six month study, 270 patients were monitored and 170 were included in the study. Early detection of deterioration was observed in 12% of patients.  The faster response time will help improve patient care, reduce hospital stay, and lower treatment costs on average. The device itself is an ultra-low power thin patch with ECG electrodes the patient wears under their clothes, and the vitals are then sent to the hospital network. SensiumVitals has a battery that lasts for up to three days. Patients can keep the device on even after they have been discharged, allowing continuous monitoring to ensure patients don’t degrade. Toumaz will pilot commercial distribution in the UK through healthcare group Spire. SensiumVitals received 510(k) clearance from the FDA in July 2011.   Flashback: Toumaz Receives FDA Approval for Sensium Digital Plaster Disposable Wireless Body Monitoring Device… Product page: SensiumVitals… Press release: SensiumVitals® receives CE m...
