uk first in ventricular remodelling surgery

the bbc website is carrying a story about ventricular remodelling surgery to improve cardiac function

this type of operation is pretty uncommon in t he UK but I think is more widely practiced in other regions. Am I correct? What is the improvement in cardiac function after this treatment you have seen and is surgery the last resort after drugs and devices have failed?
