Once-daily iron sulfate in treatment of iron deficiency anemia: is it going to be effective?

Numerous oral and parenteral iron preparations are available to correct the deficiency and restore the iron reserves. Currently ferrous sulfate is accepted as the most effective oral iron preparations available for managing moderate to severe IDA. The present article mainly aims to compare single- vs multiple-dosing schedules mentioned in standard texts of medicine. We will also discuss administration of iron sulfate with their implication in the level of hepcidin. Relevant clinical studies conducted or ongoing will also be discussed.
