Preventing Alzheimer’s and Other Brain Illnesses

One of the main premises of Grain Brain, and much of my work, is preventing Alzheimer’s disease.You actually have the ability to make changes in your lifestyle choices to  prevent Alzheimer’s. In a recent article for The Huffington Post, I address exactly why and how to make this your reality. While our government invests millions of dollars in finding a pharmaceutical to prevent Alzheimer’s, study after study has continued to find evidence that through slight variations in our daily diet as well as dedication to exercise, we can have a marked effect on reducing our risk for Alzheimer’s as well as actually improve brain performance. Studies have come out linking increased blood sugar with a reduction in the size of the hippocampus, the brain’s memory center. What does this mean? It means we shouldn’t be surprised to learn that predicted growth in the number of Americans i with Type 2 Diabetes is coupled with similar growth in the number of Americans expected to be diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in the coming decades.
