If you’re looking to promote yourself without sounding like a suckwad, read the interview an then go get Dan’s book.     How is this book different from your first book, also on personal branding?  The first book is about personal branding, how to use social media to build your career and find a job. This book isn’t about personal branding. It’s more focused on helping people get ahead at work. The first book answers the question “how do I get a job?” and the second book answers the question “now that I have a job, how do I get ahead?” I wrote the first book because I understood how to use the Internet to get internships and jobs and other people in my generation were struggling. I wrote this book because I figured out how to stand out at work in new ways that got me ahead and other people in my generation feel stuck. What are today’s hiring managers really looking for? Based on the new research I did with American Express for this book, we found that managers are looking for soft skills over hard skills and social media skills. The top soft skills they want are the ability to prioritize work, having a positive attitude (Phil, no one has a positive attitude more than you!), and teamwork skills.
