Daredevil #26 Mark Waid, writer Chris Samness, artist Another heart-related concept found in comic books is that just like fingerprints, everyone has a unique heartbeat. Therefore, if your senses are sharp enough, you’ll be able to find someone wherever they are just by listening for their particular heartbeat. Sounds good, but this idea has never been tested in the real world, and personally, I doubt it would actually hold true unless you had some weird murmur or a mechanical heart valve. Unlike fingerprints, heartbeats vary greatly from minute to minute. Regardless, I’ll accept that the “unique heartbeat” idea has a respectful comic book pedigree and accept it, at least for now. Matt Murdock is being pursued through the hospital by Ikari, a villain who has the same heightened senses as Matt. Realizing that Ikari can track him by his heartbeat, Matt decides to do something to change his heartbeat. Passing by a code cart, he grabs some syringes of adrenalin and injects himself with three of them, right into the heart. First things first, this plan will definitely change his heartbeat and he’ll be able to lose Ikari. It’s clever and effective, I’ll give it that. There are some serious downsides to the plan, though: 1. Three amps of adrenalin straight to the heart is a hell of a dose.
