VP3 Endadosh gears up for testing day

Mambo! The volunteers here in Endadosh have been busy preparing for our testing day that will take place tomorrow! We have been teaching in the primary school, hanging up posters throughout the village, and educating as many community members as possible up until now. We are excited to see the results of our efforts tomorrow! A snapshot of our life here in Endadosh: 8am   Roll out of bed/untangle ourselves from our mosquito nets 8:30  Carbo-load for the day (who knew pasta or French fries could be breakfast foods!) 9am   Set out on the day’s journey. We walk along the roads of Endadosh, in hopes of hitching a ride from a tractor. 10am  If we are not teaching in the primary school, we head to “downtown,” a strip of a few general stores, in Mpakani. Here, we walk around, teaching village members, duka shop owners or men at a pool table about HIV. Mpakani has been our area of focus recently since we have experienced the most resistance to HIV education and testing here. After putting up ~10 posters advertising our testing day, we were sad to find zero remaining the next day. Many villagers still believe many myths regarding HIV, thus it has become our duty to debunk such beliefs. This has been our greatest challenge thus far. 1pm  Head back home for some delicious lunch (perhaps fit in a game of cards with all of us and the homestay siblings) 3pm  We either start planning for the next day, create more posters, or-our personal favorite-head out to the soccer field to...
