Question/Answer: How pronounced is brain damage from solvent abuse?

‘Cutwithmeth’ asks a great question so I thought I’d post it here with an answer – enjoy: i was always convinced (deluded?) with the notion that huffing glue or gasoline to get intoxicated causes the user considerable, irreversible brain damage. however it is documented that irvine welsh (brilliant author of trainspotting) and kurt cobain (arguably musical genius) regularly abused volatile solvents….? so do you think people who have a history with gorilla glue can recover? and do you think other kinds of brain damage (getting hit in the head, poor nutrition) are more severe? Answer: Well let me say this one of the scariest autopsy’s I ever say was someone that died from solvent abuse. Also I might make a note of where is Kurt Cobain today..You do not grow new brain cells. The good thing is we only use about 7 % of our brains so if you stop COMPLETELY, including Meth, you have a chance to learn to use the remaining brain cells. When you get hit in the head the brain damage can be severe because it may be focused in one specific area, say the area of our brain that processes information. Where as Huffing randomly kills brain cells all over your brain. You can recover if you decided to enter treatment and stop using all mood altering chemicals including alcohol, but what is done is done.
