VP3: Orngadida

Feeling refreshed and rejuvenated, we are back in our village, Orngadida, after our week long break. Some of us rafted the Nile, some traveled to Zanzibar, and our teaching partners returned home to their families back in Arusha. Nonetheless, everyone had a great time! Now back in Orngadida, our focus is back on teaching HIV/AIDS prevention in our community. In the first few weeks of village life, we ran teachings on a day-to-day basis, as we formed crucial relationships with village leaders, students, our community soccer team, and, of course, with our mamas and babas (fathers). Although we enjoyed our time relaxing during break, being back in village for the past few days has reminded us just how important Orngadida and everyone in its community has become to us. Entertaining myriad questions, witnessing the excitement on the kids’ faces, and collaborating with leaders across our village has truly given us an affinity for our work and emphasized the weight that it carries. Unfortunately, we have not attained a love for everything in “village life,” but the hiccups such as “choo (bathroom) bonding,” bucket showers, and hand washing our laundry, have provided many laughs, as well as many laughs for those watching us wazungu (foreigners) and teaching partners.
