VP3: Tsamasi

Mambo vipi (Hey there!) from Saba, Francisca, Laura, and Happy in Tsamasi Village! Our first week here in village has been full of new people, new places, new foods, and new methods of transportation. All of these new experiences have been made much easier by our welcoming and loving homestay families and our great community here in Tsamasi; everyone has been very welcoming and friendly as we pass by during our daily treks up and down the hills that make up our new home. We have spent the past week getting to know our village through village meetings, household and duka (shop) surveys, football matches, and just talking to friendly people on the street. Now, to answer any questions you might have about two city-raised Tanzanian girls and two American girls living in a village that cannot be found on Google maps… 1)    Is it true there are no cars in your village? How do you get around?! Oh, it is true! We learned quickly that our village is very spread out and the past method of transportation is hitchhiking! We have been lucky enough to come upon groups of boys with cow-drawn wagons, tractors, and sometimes even pikipikis (motorcycles). They have been more than happy to give us a lift (except on the motorcycles) and save us an hour or two of walking. Is there a cost, you ask?
