Abstract GPs should do more to identify adults who do little physical activity and provide brief advice to encourage them to be more active, a new NICE guideline states. Public Health Guideline No. 44: Physical Activity: Brief Advice for Adults in Primary Care (www.nice.org.uk/PH44) recognises the benefits of exercise for physical and mental wellbeing but points out that most people do not reach the official minimum recommended levels of activity. Inactive adults can be identified opportunistically or as part of the management of a longā€term condition.
