A Week King’ori

Greetings from King’Ori village! All of us in King’Ori (Teaching Partners: Maryam & Caroline and Volunteers: Charlotte BP, Vanessa, Olivia & Iszy) send a lot of love home and hope that everyone enjoys hearing about our week. On Saturday we had our first experience teaching at a bar. Iszy and Olivia broke the ice by challenging one of the young men to a game of pool. They promptly lost, but not before both of them had sunk a few balls. Before teaching, Vanessa and Caroline walked around the village recruiting youngsters to listen to what we had to say. We then started our teaching to the group of about 15-20 young men and a few young women. As we taught, more and more people came over to see what the foreigners were talking about. They asked some very challenging questions which Charlotte and Maryam expertly answered. Even though Vanessa had difficulty controlling the crowd since her sweet, innocent voice could not physically go loud enough, we considered the teaching a huge success and the crowd asked us to come back soon. Ladies of King’ori having a blast! The next day we put on our Sunday best to teach at church. Iszy was still living down last week’s embarrassment of telling the entire church “my name is America.” This week she introduced herself correctly and we all taught about 150 community members about living with and caring for people with HIV.  During the service Iszy and Maryam danced at the front with the choir membe...
