VP1: Gallapo

Mambo rafiki (Hello, friends)! Gallapo here weighing in on our big Community Day which we held last Saturday. Since we were the most centrally located village in the ward, we were tasked with leading the organization of our VP’s Community Day! We wanted to thank the wonderful people of the Gallapo ward for being so receptive to our presence and teachings. Community Day also serves as a last push for testing. Chatting, Teaching & Advertising Planning Community Day was daunting in the beginning since we had to plan a soccer tournament, organize games for kids, arrange for a DJ, and spread the word around our community about the Siku Ya Jamii (community celebration). We spent the entire week leading up to Saturday preparing and promoting. We had hundreds of flyers printed at a local stationary store and distributed them all throughout the village. In addition, we plastered the town with chalk and posters advertizing a community celebration. Chalking it up to advertise for Community Day Finally, the big day arrived! As volunteers, we met early at the soccer field to make sure all of our planning had paid off. We faced some challenges such as one of the soccer teams failing to show up, but luckily our fellow volunteers and teaching partners stepped up and we fielded our own SIC team to fill the bracket.
