VP2–Greetings from Malula!

Hello from Malula! We’ve been in the village a week now, and we’ve managed to accomplish a lot! Malula is a pretty village right off the main road from Arusha to Moshi. You can see Mount Kilimanjaro from here, and there are lots of sunflowers, corn, and animals. After exploring the village and conducting household and condom surveys, we had our first teaching at Manyota Tuition Center. We taught about HIV transmission to 125 students, Forms 1-4 (high school students). Everyone was very excited—our team to dour first teaching, and the students to learn more about HIV. The reaching went really well overall, and the students had many interesting and challenging questions. Next time, we plan to teach the students about HIV prevention. Can’t wait!! We’ve also had the chance to meet with HIV-positive patients—a wonderful couple and their daughter. We listened to their story about getting tested and the stigma they now face due to their HIV status. We also got the chance to teach them about transmission and prevention, and we answered their questions. The Mama and Baba (father) wanted to know about female condoms which we tried to explain by drawing since we didn’t bring a female condom with us. They were very grateful for our visit, and the Baba said he would introduce us to another HIV patient in Malula soon. Before we left, we even got to take a picture with them.
