June 27 is National HIV Testing Day

National HIV Testing Day on June 27 serves to remind us of the importance of screening for HIV infection. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), of the more than 1.1 million people in the United States estimated to be living with HIV, approximately 20% are unaware of their HIV status. Federal guidelines recommend HIV testing for all people aged 15 to 65, as well as for younger adolescents and older adults who are at an increased risk for HIV infection. The guidelines also recommend that all pregnant women, including women in labor whose HIV status is unknown, be screened for HIV.  Explore the AIDSinfo National HIV Testing Day webpage [en español] to learn more about this observance and find links to HIV testing resources.
