Under 15s at Highest Risk for Cannabis-Related Harms

A study of 1,303 current cannabis users showed that under 15 year olds are at disproportionately higher risk for developing or exacerbating mental and physical health problems. Reporting on the study, which was published in the International Journal of Methods and Psychiatric Research, the Province Newspaper quoted the study's author, Prof Benedict Fischer, as recommending that parents and policy makers focus on encouraging compliance rather than punishment. As it is only the minority of early and high frequency users that have been identified as having the highest risks to their mental and physical health, Fischer recommends "realistic, appropriate and health-focused educational initiatives aimed at school-aged children."...Read Full Post
