Orientation – to – Gallapo Ward
Greetings Friends & Family of our VP1 Crew,
Orientation has officially ended. We spent nine intense days at the training site in Babati, Tanzania. Every morning the volunteers started the day with Swahili lessons while our fantastic Tanzanian teaching partners reviewed biology and vocabulary specific to HIV/AIDS.
It didn’t take long to see that this group was shining. On the fourth day, everyone began sharing their lessons. Topics include: transmission, prevention, testing, reproductive health, and addressing stigma. They worked incredibly hard to improve their teaching practices and implement all the feedback & suggestions from SIC coordinators and staff. It was truly exciting to watch their progress in only a few short days.
We also had the pleasure of having a small panel of people living with HIV/AIDS join us for an afternoon discussion. This gave our teaching partners and volunteers a great opportunity to hear first had stories about how HIV has impacted the lives of three local Tanzanians. (see attached group picture)
Yesterday, we traveled thirty minutes from Babati town to Gallapo ward where the volunteers and teaching partners will be working together until mid July. There are six villages within the ward. Here are the villages with each group
