Say Yes To Fun

When was the last time you said “YES” to something just because it is fun? In the fast-paced, high-stress world of adulthood, it is important to periodically take a break for fun. It is the final full week of school this week and at 8:45 am the text from our elementary music teacher came: Opera Kickball. 9:00.  Bring coffee! Opera Kickball is something special she does for the 4th graders each year.  The kids get to go outside, be silly, and run around.  Sounds like fun, right.  She and I are the “Divas” and the children must bow whenever we step onto the kickball field.  Extra points are awarded for excellent (and horrible) singing, sportsmanship, teamwork, and enthusiastic bowing.  The kids have a great time – and me… well I smiled and laughed more this morning than I have in ages! Sure, I had a list of things to do today (it is still right here where I left it), but really, how often does a person get the chance to play Opera Kickball? After a short argument with myself about adult responsibility, I chose fun. Now, and hour later, I’m back – feeling great and ready to go. Don’t overlook the benefit of a short break for fun.  Laughter, being outside, and sharing time with people you enjoy are great ways to reduce stress and improve your heart health. Are you saying “YES” to fun? Please share in a comment below.
