Korean red ginseng prevents post-traumatic stress disorder-triggered depression-like behaviors in rats via activation of the serotonergic system

ConclusionOur findings suggest that KRG has an antidepressant effect in rats subjected to SPS and may represent an effective use of traditional medicine for the treatment of PTSD.Graphical abstractKorean red ginseng administration significantly reversed the depression-like behavioral abnormalities in the forced swimming test. Biochemical alterations in the hippocampus including changes in levels of 5-HT were consistent with the behavioral results .
