Radiology Through History: Canadian Contributions, 1895-1917

The history of discovery in nineteenth- and twentieth-century medicine is punctuated by Canadian contributions [1 –3]. Physicians from William Osler and Maud Menten to Frederick Banting and William Best are lauded for their contributions that have advanced medical science. However, the Canadian connection to the history of radiology may be less known. Canadian research made significant contributions to basic radiation science, early medical imaging, and contemporary innovations in radiology. Canadian involvement in these technological advancements and clinical interventions led to the establishment of radiology as a distinct field of medicine, and the flourishing of professional societies dedicated to a dvancing the field.
