VivienLauYW, Singh S - External Cadmium on Barley Plant (Hordeum vulgare)

VivienLauYW – The University of British Columbia UBC Honor of Developmental Biology Directed Studies The Final Version of Vivien Lau YW’s Written Research Report. The Effect o different Concentration of External Cadmium on Barley Plant (Hordeum vulgare) Pretreated by Iron-deficient Nutrient and Iron-sufficient Nutrient (+/- Fe), Salicylic Acid (SA), Abscisic Acid (ABA), Benzyl-amino purine (BAP), and Jasmonic Acid (JA) is studied by the Height of plant, the Chlorophyll Level, the Total Protein Level, the Peroxidase Activity, the SDS-PAGE and the Internal Cadmium of the Pretreated Barley Plant. This experiment found that the –Fe pretreated barley plant can be used in the phytoremediation of Cadmium contaminated land while SA, JA and high concentration of ABA can be used to allow barley to grow on Cadmium contaminated land and the internal Cadmium of those barley product may be edible without contaminating food cycle.
