Request for Proposals: National Tay-Sachs & Allied Diseases Association Research Grant Program The National Tay- Sachs & Allied Diseases Association Inc. (NTSAD) is considered to be the nation’s oldest genetic disease nonprofit organization. The “Allied Diseases” represent a family of almost 100 rare diseases including lysosomal storage diseases (LSD) and leukodystrophies affecting the central nervous system. A major element of NTSAD’s mission is to lead the fight to treat and cure Tay-Sachs, Canavan and related genetic diseases; therefore, NTSAD is committed to funding research projects that advance this mission. Grants will be awarded for an initial period of one year at $40,000 direct costs per year (10% indirect cost rate); funding for a second year is predicated by adequate progress during year 1. The application will use a two-step process. First, a one page pre-application will be submitted. From these pre-applications, investigators will be chosen to submit a full application. The deadline for submission of pre-applications is January 2, 2015. NTSAD is soliciting proposals for innovative research projects that involve basic research, translational studies or clinical studies in the areas of neurodegenerative disorders affecting the CNS, including lysosomal storage disorders (particularly Tay-Sachs, GM-1, Sandhoff) and pediatric leukodystrophies (in particular Canavan disease).
