Face-to-face phacoemulsification using a slit lamp in patients unable to lie flat

We describe a novel technique that we have used on 4 eyes of 2 patients. Both were operated on while sitting in a strictly upright position, resting their chin in front of a mobile slit lamp like during a standard ophthalmologic examination. The surgeon sits on the other side of the slit lamp, facing the patient, and operates via a temporal corneal incision.
