HIVE Southampton Teaches at The Gregg School

Today, four HIVE Southampton teachers braved the cold snowy weather to travel to The Gregg School. Nick Ridler was kind of enough to give the other teachers (John Whale, Clemmie Anderson Harriet) a lift, having almost frozen his hands to the bone in clearing the unexpected snow from his car at 9am. Arriving at 9.30am, we hurried inside the school and were greeted by over 70 enthusiastic year 11 pupils. A slide from the new Million Pound Drop teaching resource When teaching Nick, John and Clemmie emphasised the difference between HIV and AIDS, and many pupils were surprised to realise A slide from the new Million Pound Drop teaching resourcethat HIV frequently presents with no symptoms. More pupils still were interested to learn that breast milk contained HIV and that this could be a potential route of transmission from mother to baby if the latter was teething and had an open wound in their mouth. After Millionaire Pound Drop, we talked to the students in an interactive discrimination workshop and many pupils engaged in this. Thank you to The Gregg School for inviting us and we look forward to returning next year. Written by John Whale (HIVE Southampton Secretary)
