Xerox Developing Tech for Non-Contact Collection of Vital Signs

Last week we got a chance to attend a demo day at Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) where Xerox was showing off some of the technologies they are working on.Dr. Mestha, a principal scientist at the company and Dr. Austin, program manager for healthcare in the Xerox Innovation Group, presented an innovative video system for the collection of non-contact vitals. Utilizing sensitive infrared video cameras, data is collected for tissue within 10 mm of the skin’s surface.  According to the company, using a proprietary algorithm evaluation system, it is possible to obtain standard vital signs such as heart rate, as well as to detect conditions such as cardiac arrhythmia and estimate pulmonary circulatory volume.
