Rural and Remote Area Service Provision for People Aging With Intellectual Disability

This study detailed a large number of items rated as important by direct care staff. A thematic analysis identified specific areas of concern including funding, training challenges and options, and access to relevant generic and specialist services. The findings of this study have implications for the delivery of rural services and training of staff. The results point to the need for changes to initial training and professional development options to support staff to work successfully with people with intellectual disabilities who are aging in rural areas.
