Hospital marketers beware of Pinterest changes

by Nancy Cawley Jean This marks my third post about Pinterest. In my first post, I just wasn't seeing the value. In my post last month, I was gushing with accolades for Pinterest. Well, talk about things changing quickly in the social media world. With this post, I'm going in the opposite direction. Here's why. Recently Pinterest announced it was changing its design and functionality. Users were given the opportunity to preview the new look, so I did ... Here's how Pinterest is describing the changes. Sounds "Pintastic," doesn't it? That's what I thought too. There goes the neighborhood So I switched to a beta version of the new design and tried it out. I first noticed that when you repin something, you no longer get that wonderful pop-up box telling you about another pinner who repinned the same thing. With the change, there is now no option to "follow" that person you might not be connected with. Personally, I loved that little pop-up--it was how I was able to connect with so many people who had similar interests! It was Pinterest's way of helping you to expand your social media community. On the old version, that little "follow" made it easy to connect with others--they may be people you may never have found if it weren't for that clever little pop-up. I don't know if Pinterest plans to bring this back with the new version. I sure hope so. At the same time, though, you CAN see who repinned it from the homepage.
