Unveiling the “Opaque’ Hydrophobic Acrylic Intraocular Lens

A 75-year-old lady was referred having previously undergone uncomplicated cataract surgery with AcrySof single piece intraocular lens (IOL) with worsening visual acuity in the immediate postoperative period even after Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy due to worsening ‘opacification of the IOL’. Anterior segment Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) found an opaque membrane enveloping the intraocular lens. She underwent peeling of the anterior IOL surface membrane and freeing of any adherence between the IOL and capsular bag.
