Having A Cold Is Like Being Drunk

Colds can impair thinking as much as alcohol!   This week I’ve been struggling with a cold. Not only am I coughing and sneezing, I’m feeling fuzzy, and frankly a little stupid. Turns out there is a good reason for that! In a recent study released by Cardiff University in Wales, Dr. Andrew Smith discovered people suffering with the cold virus were less alert, had more negative moods, and more sluggish thinking. Even more concerning was that those with colds had slower reaction times, were slower in learning new information and in completing tasks. Turns out it’s not my imagination. I am more stupid when I have a cold! Dr. Smith also conducted simulated driving tasks which equated reaction times of people with colds to those of people under the influence of alcohol. Yet another reason to take care of yourself it you have a cold! Be careful out there this cold season. Be safe, stay home (and off the roads) if possible, and be kind to yourself.
