Abstract The NHS Confederation and the Royal College of General Practitioners have published guidance on promoting the integration of primary and secondary care. Making integrated out‐of‐hospital care a reality sets out six principles for turning rhetoric into reality: best use of resources, patient empowerment, targeting services, joint leadership, incentivisation by new tariffs, and transparency. The document, available at www.nhsconfed.org, includes case studies of integrating NHS services for physical health, mental health and social care.
