Burglary Suspect Steals Ambulance from Mobile Hospital

MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) — Mobile Police say the man who stole a Mobile Fire-Rescue ambulance was in custody for an attempted burglary at the Subway on Springhill Avenue. While being questioned at Mobile Police Headquarters the still un-named suspect became ill and required medical attention. A private ambulance was called to transport the suspect to Mobile Infirmary. Once at the hospital the suspect was able to get out of the ambulance and take control of the MFRD ambulance and take off. Police confirm one shot was fired by an officer as the suspect attempted to get past officers who were blocking him in. No injuries were reported as a result of the shot. Damage to passenger window and windshield could be seen on the ambulance. MORE
