Q/A – Drug treatment difficulties anyone?

You guys might also have this question so I’m posting it here with a good answer too. It comes from ‘Follow-the-narrow-gate’ who asks: So… I have started my second round of IOP (intensive outpatient) and I always find treatment difficult. The fact of sitting in a room full of alcoholics and addicts… who are talking about drugs (whether it is good or bad) makes me want to use even more. I am always trying to recover, but talking about drugs always makes me want to use. Anyone else have these difficulties in treatment or in general ?NOTE: Please do not put rude comments, because my recovery is a serious thing and you do not know me or anything about my recovery. Answer: Hey did you know that’s exactly how I feel about “recovery” programs. Maybe sitting around re-hashing drug induced tales works for some,yet none that I know. The last time I got High was November 1997. I think a person quits when their finally ready and not a minute sooner, I cut all ties with any users, literally isolated myself away from most everything, which was really tough.But that’s what ” I” had to do. I buried myself in my work. focused my energy on my kid, I was a single dad as well. Basically altered my thinking. Sitting around a table with a bunch of people talking over the “good” times, isn’t changing your thought process your still locked into the daily thought….Change the way you think…quit clean ...
