An Answer to the Question: where does it talk about drug use in the Big Book of AA?

I thought I’d post this question from Janie M since a lot of people seem to be asking it lately: i have managed to stay off booze and am trying desperately to get off the drugs as well and was told i’m wasting people time at AA meetings if i’m not completely clean off booze and drugs. i would like to refer to sections from the Big Book of AA to bring to my meeting. Answer: What, you think you are going to try to convince a room full of AA oldtimers that they are wrong about the “unity of purpose” thing? Good luck! If you want to try, the place to look in the 4th edition of the BB is the story “Acceptance Was The Answer” beginning on page 407. In the 3d edition, the story was called “Doctor, Alcoholic, Addict”. The story is all about a doctor who was both an alcoholic and addicted to prescription drugs.I must say though that in my opinion, and I say this after putting together 10.5 years of continuous abstinence from alcohol and spending years of my life in AA (I don’t go anymore), 12 step programs are completely insane. Not only is there this bizarre distaste for other types of addicts (I’ve known people to walk out of leads just because the speaker mentioned he did drugs as well as drink) but there is all that drama, all that relapsing, all that sexual acting out.
