This study examined the prevalence of asthma and health care burden in groups that represent a significant proportion of Ontario?s population. Action plans in patients presenting to emergency departments with asthma exacerbations: Frequency of use and description of contentsWritten asthma action plans (AAPs) represent one of the key strategies for ambulatory asthma care and management. Despite the success of AAPs, however, they continue to be underused in asthma patients presenting with acute exacerbations. This study examined AAPs reported by patients presenting to three urban Canadian emergency departments, and explored knowledge and care gaps that may represent barriers to urgently needed effective uptake to reduce the burden of disease in at-risk populations.
