NADPH oxidase is a primary target for antioxidant effects by inorganic nitrite in lipopolysaccharide-induced oxidative stress in mice and in macrophage cells

In conclusion, these novel findings position NADPH oxidase in the inflammatory vasculature as a prime target for the antioxidant effects of inorganic nitrite, and open a new direction to modulate the inflammatory response.Graphical abstractThrough mediating NADPH oxidase activity, the increase of NO bioavailability by nitrite-NO pathway will reduce vascular oxidative stress and endothelial dysfunction, resulting in higher survival during acute inflammation.
