Transfusing with lower Hb threshold safer for GI bleeding

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - In patients with acute gastrointestinal bleeding, the current practice of not transfusing red cells until the hemoglobin (Hb) level falls below 7 g/dL lowers the risk of death and further bleeding, a team of Spanish doctors reports online today in the New England Journal of Medicine.
