It is a common risk factor for depression and anxiety. Here, a case of sleep disturbance that received 72 sessions of acupuncture treatment delivered is reported. After acupuncture treatment, the patient's Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, Hamilton Depression Rating Scale, and Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale score decreased, as well as the plasma tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin-6 levels are reduced. No adverse effects were observed. The findings of clinical studies provide evidence base that supports the effects of acupuncture in reducing sleep disturbance in a patient.
