Role of Radiation and Androgen Deprivation Therapy for Advanced Prostate Cancer

In the sections that follow further detail will be provided on (a) the addition of hormone therapy to radiotherapy and vice versa, (b) the duration and timing of hormone therapy, and (c) ongoing investigations in this active study area. Note that the discussion will be limited to the use of ADT with XRT in the locally advanced intact prostate cancer (ie, not post-prostatectomy) setting. Note also that the discussion of radiotherapy will be restricted to external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) as opposed to brachytherapy, as EBRT is the primary clinical setting in which combination ADT and XRT has been investigated.
