It is applied in microelectronics, refractory, catalytic processing, coatings, energy storage, environment protection, and in a wide variety of other industrial applications. In the past decades, various methods have been adopted to synthesize alumina with different properties. Among these methods, solution combustion is considered as an efficient and economic synthesis route, because of its simplicity, low energy consumption, short processing time, and low processing cost. Recent innovations in the combustion and processing parameters have allowed applying this method for the development of a wide range of alumina-based materials. In this review, an overview of the synthesis of alumina and related materials by solution combustion method was provided, relying on the research works reported in the literature since 1988.
