Polymer complexes. LXXIII. Synthesis, characterization, thermal properties, electron spin resonance study and antimicrobial activity of Cu(II) polymer complexes: Relation between representative Pascal constants and thermal activation energy of decomposition

Copper(II) polymer complexes of 3 ‐allyl‐5‐(4‐nitrophenylazo)‐2‐thioxothiazolidine‐4‐one were synthesized. The copper ion is coordinated through the oxygen atom of carbonyl group and nitrogen atom of hydrazone group. From histograms of the representative Pascal constants and thermal activation energy of decomposition (Ea) employing the Coats –Redfern (a) and Horowitz–Metzger (b) methods, it is observed thatEa values of the polymer complexes decrease in the order2>1>3 (NO3−>Cl−>CH3COO−). A series of copper(II) polymer complexes (1–4) of 3 ‐allyl‐5‐(4‐nitrophenylazo)‐2‐thioxothiazolidine‐4‐one (HL) were synthesized and characterized using various spectroscopic techniques. Infrared spectral data indicate that the copper ion is coordinated through the oxygen atom of the carbonyl group and the nitrogen atom of the hydrazo ne group. The polymer complex4 is polycrystalline with a high degree of crystallinity compared with polymer complexes1–3. The affinity of polymer complexes1–4 to calf thymus DNA was determined throug...
