Fulminant hepatic failure in kala-azar: Is it hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis?

We describe two such cases admitted in our department in the last year to highlight the need for a high index of suspicion amongst treating pediatricians for HLH secondary to infective aetiology especially kala-azar in endemic areas in cases presenting as fulminant hepatic failure since timely diagnosis can reverse a potentially fatal outcome.
