Newborns with clinical suspicion of septicemia and positive blood culture were studied. 42.6% cases with suspected sepsis were blood culture positive. Most frequent organism isolated was coagulase negative Staphylococcus (CONS) in 23.5% followed by Staphylococcus aureus 19%, and Klebsiella in 16.3% of the cases. Most of the isolates of CONS for which sensitivity was done, were sensitive to commonly used antibiotics except ampicillin.
