Clozapine effectiveness assessed in RCTs of children and adolescents

Clozapine, the drug of choice for treatment ‐resistant schizophrenia in adults, has only limited research supporting its use in children and adolescents. Researchers, writing in theJournal of Child and Adolescent Psychopharmacology, found that 95% of pediatric patients admitted to a hospital on, or then placed on, clozapine were discharged on the medication, but stressed that the incidence of adverse effects was high, reinforcing the need for both accurate diagnoses and vigilant monitoring.
