Evaluation of two different reinforcing materials used with silicone auricular prostheses

Conclusion None of the tested prostheses showed any clinically detrimental effects on the underlying tissues. Reinforcing silicone with polyurethane sheets and polypropylene fibers improved the tear strength, tensile strength and modulus of elasticity thus providing better marginal integrity and durability of prostheses. Addition for modifying the silicone as a famous maxillofacial prosthetic material seems to be an active area for further researches.
