On the identity of Hyla zernyi Ahl 1933 (Anura: Hylidae) from Taperinha, Pará, Brazil

Publication date: Available online 22 November 2018Source: Zoologischer AnzeigerAuthor(s): Marinus S. HoogmoedAbstractRe-examination of the holotype of Hyla zernyi showed it to be a recently metamorphosed juvenile of Dryaderces inframaculata, and not a synonym of Trachycephalus typhonius, a species with which it had been incorrectly synonymized in 1971. Synonymization of H. zernyi with D. inframaculata was only possible after juveniles of D. inframaculata were collected recently in an area relatively close to the type locality of H. zernyi in Brazilian Amazonia near Santarém. Examination of the holotype of Hyla auraria showed that morphologically it is not similar, and probably not closely related, to Hyla zernyi and should continue to be considered as a nomen inquirendum.
