Heparin for diagnostic trans ‐radial catheterization: Can we have some randomized data?

Key Points Marked heterogeneity exists regarding the dose, time and route of administration of unfractionated heparin for diagnostic trans ‐radial procedures. In an era of smaller caliber hydrophilic radial sheaths, patent hemostasis technique, and shorter compression times, the utility of heparin to prevent radial artery occlusion remains a question. A randomized clinical trial assessing the utility, timing, dose, and route of admin istration of unfractionated heparin for diagnostic radial catheterization with an aim to prevent radial artery occlusion is needed.
